Job Description:

The California Secretary of State has received the number of signatures necessary to trigger a recall of the Governor of California. Consequently, the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions of roving Field Election Deputies (FEDs) to provide support to poll workers at 588 polling places on Election Day. Although the exact date of the recall election has yet to be set, it is anticipated to occur in September of this year.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Online 2-hour training course detailing poll worker duties
  • Online 3-hour training course detailing FED duties
  • In-person 2-hour training lab focusing on operating voting equipment
  • In person 4-hour route driving of the territory assigned on Election Day
  • In person 20-hour Election Day assignment – Election Day, 4am – midnight

Job Requirements:

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification.

Applicants must have a valid California driver’s license and a clean DMV record.
Six (6) months of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail: OR
Completion of 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR
Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR
Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program.
