Job Description:

The Nutrition Services Branch (NSB) is responsible for improving the health and nutritional status of North Carolinians. The Nutrition Services Branch administers the following statewide programs: Women, Infant and Children’s (WIC) Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BFPC), and the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). Responsibilities of this position include administrative and fiscal duties that safeguard the integrity of the various programs located within the branch. The position manages the contracting process for the branch, ensures prompt and accurate payments to vendors, coordinates day-to-day administrative activities, drafts and presents funding scenarios to managers using several variables and allocates funds to external stakeholders once approved, grants management, special projects, generates invoices to third parties, and performs financial reporting. The Branch is a fast-paced environment that is ever changing with an operating budget of approximately $380,000,000.

Job Responsibilities:

As a part of DHHS, the Division of Public Health is made of a several sections servicing the citizens of North Carolina. The Nutrition Service Branch is a part of the Women and Children’s Health Section within Public Health. Activities of the Nutrition Services Branch promote sound nutrition habits among infants, children and women in their child-bearing years. Branch staff work with county, state and private agencies to improve health status by reducing the incidence of nutritional risk factors, improving pregnancy outcomes, and hastening recovery from illness and injury through the provision of technical assistance, education and supplemental foods.

Qualification & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in HR, budgeting, research or administrative management;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience.
