Job Description:
This is entry-level professional training toward work enforcing state gaming laws and regulations. Emphasis is placed on successful completion of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy and the field training program taught by senior level agents of the Mississippi Gaming Commission (MGC). During this period, the incumbent works under close supervision conducting field investigations, ascertaining facts, obtaining evidence, and reporting on cases of statutory or regulatory violations. Incumbents prepare reports of activities and maintain records in connection with investigations. Duties are performed according to state laws and agency regulations, policies and procedures. The incumbent is supervised by a more senior level gaming agent reporting to a gaming special agent and an administrative superior. (Upon successful completion of the prescribed training and in-service regimen, the incumbent may be recommended for reclassification to Gaming Agent I.)
Job Responsibilities:
Examples of work performed in this classification include, but are not limited to the following:
Studies the statutes, policies and regulations pertaining to the enforcement of state gaming laws.
Participates in assigned professional development training.
Assists with processing gaming work permits applicants using Identix fingerprint machine.
Assists with investigations into complaints and disputes between the gaming public and licensed gaming establishments.
Assists in conducting periodic inspections and investigations at approved gaming locations to ensure compliance with gaming laws and regulations.
Assists in the investigation of all persons, corporations, and others who are alleged to have violated gaming laws and regulations.
Assists with interview of persons, suspects, and witnesses in non-criminal and criminal matters;
Completes detailed written records and reports on inspections as well as incidents of criminal and regulatory violation.
Assists in issuance of citations and arrests of violators.
