This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, National Maritime Center, Mariner Training and Assessment Division, Martinsburg, WV.
As a Marine Transportation Specialist, this position serves as a maritime subject matter expert for all mariner training needs and requirements related to the administration of Coast Guard approved courses and programs in support of the U.S. Mariner Credentialing Program (MCP). Supervises a team of subject matter experts in the analysis and development of training requirements and the review and approval of all mariner training necessary to obtain and maintain a Merchant Mariner Credential including both National and Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers Endorsements.
Applicant must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level (in the Federal sector). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
Experience in mariner training development and delivery, assessment, and leadership.
Experience leading and/or supervising a staff in the maritime industry.
Experience serving as a subject matter expert in either or both deck and engine shipboard operations and maintenance.
Selective placement factor(s) must be met in order to receive further consideration: Applicant must hold or have held a U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential in the grade of Master, Any Gross Tons or Chief Engineer of Unlimited Horsepower, including international Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers certification or equivalent military experience as Commanding Officer or Engineer Officer/Chief Engineer of vessels of more than 3,000 Gross Tons or 4000HP.
