Job Description:
Under general direction, plans and administers the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment plants; makes public presentations and responds to public inquiries; performs related work as required; and acts for the Wastewater Manager in their absence.
Job Responsibilities:
Organizes and supervises City-owned wastewater treatment plants; applies basic sanitary engineering principles and practices to assure proper operation and treatment processes; evaluates plant operation; assists in long-range planning of facilities; investigates complaints, accidents of employees, and reviews industrial waste discharge permit requests; supervises laboratory operations and wastewater analysis; supervises municipal farm operations to assure conformance to State health regulations, mosquito and vector control, and other requirements; prepares budget requests, requisitions, correspondence, and operational and technical performance reports; maintains various departmental records; trains employees; and conducts safety meetings.
Job Requirements:
Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Physical, Biological, or Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or related field, AND;
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment administration, operations, or related experience, including three years at a supervisory level, OR;
An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described job duties
Possession of a valid Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade V Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board
Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license.
Possession of a Civil or Mechanical Engineering License issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists
