Job Description:

California’s public education system is administered at the state level by the California Department of Education (CDE), for the education of more than 6.2 million students from pre-kindergarten age to adult education.

Under the direction of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction (SSPI), the Chief Deputy Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent or General Counsel, Division Directors are responsible for developing statewide policies, goals and objectives for programs administered by the CDE.

The CDE Division Directors are an integral part of the CDE’s leadership team. Under the administrative direction of the General Counsel, Legal and Audits Branch, the Director, Audits and Investigations Division, is responsible for developing and managing the Division’s statewide audits, investigations, and reviews. The Director position provides technical assistance to community-based organizations and local educational agencies receiving federal education program, school nutrition program and California State Preschool funding, including policies for agencies and CPAs on reporting results of the California State Preschool Program, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, and Adult Education Program funding. The Director is also responsible for developing and establishing policies relating to the CDE’s internal controls; plans, coordinates, directs, and oversees the Division’s comprehensive internal and external audit and investigation functions in accordance with applicable professional auditing standards, as well as audit response coordination with state and federal regulatory agencies. The Director manages the day-to-day operations of the Division, and responsibilities include long range planning, directing, budgeting, staff development, and coordinating a variety of complex technical and/or high-risk audits and investigations, and audit responses.

The Statement of Qualifications should not exceed three pages in length with a minimum font size of 12 pitch.
