Job Description:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts or participates in audits of corporations with the highest complexity ratings to uncover domestic or international tax avoidance schemes, ensuring compliance with the statutes administered by the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) and for the Canadian public across Canada.
  • Researches highly complex statutes and tax laws administered by the Agency, international treaties, foreign legislation, jurisprudence, Agency policies and economic /industry-specific information from sources outside the Agency, applies judgment to arrive at audit conclusions and to ensure all appropriate provisions of Canadian tax laws and income tax treaties are complied with.
  • Conducts audits of medium and/or high rated corporations in the for the Canadian public.
  • Audits of highly complex returns and rebates/refunds to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Excise Tax Act.
  • Independently and as a member of a team, conducts extensive analysis and reviews of the Notices of Objection (Income Tax and Excise Tax) filed by complex large corporations and formulates decisions and resolves the Notice of Objection in an impartial, timely and principled manner; assists Department of Justice legal counsel, Litigation officers and Appeals Directorate staff by participating as the CRA’s nominee or witness for appeals filed to the Tax Court of Canada, provides technical assistance to other team members, so as to facilitate compliance with the statutes administered by the CRA.

Job Requirements:

  • Performing one or more of the following job duties with large and/or complex corporations* in public practice, industry or other government agencies:
  • conducting/managing audits;
  • corporate tax preparation;
  • providing tax advice under the Income Tax Act or Excise Tax Act;
  • preparing financial statements for large corporations;
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English – written communication
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English – verbal communication
  • Accounting knowledge and ability to interpret legislation
  • Knowledge and application of Income Tax Act Legislation, Policies and Procedures
