The Wake Food Security Social and Economic Vitality VISTAs work to increase access to food and services for Wake County’s most vulnerable residents. The goal of this project is to support communities in increasing their quality of life through food access and tools for facilitating community resiliency. With community residents’ voices guiding our efforts, we are aligning strategic partners to bridge gaps in resources while simultaneously building the capacity to lead and contribute to positive community change efforts. The Eastern Wake SEV Strategist will focus on building partnerships with emphasis on resource development and connections in the eastern zone of Wake County, including the towns of Zebulon, Wendell, and Knightdale.
The SEV Eastern Wake VISTA Strategist will implement strategies from the Moving Beyond Hunger Food Security Plan in SEV zones with an emphasis on economic development, job training and community capacity building. In addition, the VISTA will help increase effectiveness of the Summer Food Program in Eastern Wake County, including identifying solutions to transportation barriers and identifying funding opportunities. The capstone project for the VISTA will be developing an anchor asset action plan for the SEV Zones. The VISTA should have skills in oral and written communications, grant-writing, public speaking, customer service, problem solving & critical thinking skills, time management & organization and leadership. VISTA should possess a basic understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, racial equity & cultural sensitivity, food systems and food security and be able to work independently and on a team. Will require some weekend and evenings.
